Developing the preparedness for professional self-determination of hearing impaired students

Abstract

The article presents the research results on developing the preparedness for professional self-determination of hearing impaired students taught according to the secondary vocational curriculum education programs, as a part of extracurricular activities. The study is relevant due to the professional self-determination for hearing impaired students is essential under their choosing a professional trajectory, career building, self-realization, social adaptation and comprehensive rehabilitation. However, studying vocational guidance issues of this category of students revealed a low level of the professional self-determination process and, as a result, difficulties to master training programs. First-year students have generally demonstrated low levels of motivation development for learning, poor training in specialized disciplines, and limited knowledge about their future profession. Nowadays, there is an objective need to elaborate effective methods for the professional self-determination development of hearing impaired students in an inclusive educational process. To solve the problem outlined above, an analytical review of publications devoted to studying issues of professional self-determination of students with auditory deprivation has been done, the essential aspects of professional self-determination are defined, a diagnostic technique system is compiled, which reveals the professional self-determination current level of students with hearing impairment. The pedagogical work system on the development of readiness for professional self-determination of hearing impaired students was designed based on modern normative legal acts regulating career guidance work with students, research results by specialists involved in this field of knowledge, as well as taking into account the outcome of a practical study. This system includes the goal, objectives, principles, stages, directions, techniques, methods and forms of involving students with hearing impairment in professional directed extracurricular activities that contribute to the most effective formation of readiness for professional self-determination. The elaborated system was implemented in the practice of the university inclusive environment based on the Institute of Social Technologies, which has multiyear experience in vocational training of people with disability health. More than a half of the students of the Institute of Social Technologies have various hearing impairments. By the results of implementing the system, recommendations were formulated to create conditions to develop professional self-determination of students in extracurricular activities. Its usage will allow teachers in educational organizations to arrange more effectively vocational guidance work with hearing impaired students.
