Abstract

Introduction. Today, multiculturalism is one of the most important factors in training specialists in non-linguistic educational institutions. This is due to the fact that it contributes to the formation of a common cultural space and mutual understanding between people. The ability to both speak a foreign language and understand it in the context of culture is a necessary foundation for a high level of professionalism of students in the future. Purpose setting. This work is aimed at improving the competence of perception of foreign languages as a method of social communication, which are an integral part of building relationships with native speakers of another language, and is also designed to help broaden horizons and form an aesthetic perception of the culture of another country. Methodology and methods of the study. The use of such a factor as multiculturalism in the framework of teaching a foreign language also makes it possible to solve one of the most important problems directly related to the formation of a single intercultural space, in particular in preparation for a specific profession. The process of teaching English in higher education institutions, where linguistics is not the main focus, provides opportunities for the formation of important competencies related to knowledge of a foreign language, including understanding the culture and mentality of native speakers. The article examines the features of the formation of educational programs for learning a foreign language in a multicultural context within the framework of Russian non-linguistic universities. Results. To increase the level of interest in learning a foreign language in non-linguistic universities, it is necessary to monitor digitalization and introduce appropriate digital materials and learning tools, including in the context of intercultural communication with educational institutions in other countries, where students can immerse themselves in the international space and improve communication skills by communicating with native speakers. Conclusions. The expansion of foreign language teaching methods allows a foreign language teacher at a non-linguistic university to choose those methods that are most relevant to a specific group of students. The latter allows us to meet the needs of students, as well as increase their interest and create an individual way of learning a foreign  language.
