FOREIGN LANGUAGE TEACHING IN THE CONTEXT OF COMPETENCE-BASED APPROACH

Abstract
The article is devoted to the consideration of the semantic-pedagogical aspect of the formation of professional competence of students of non-linguistic specialties of universities, in particular, students of the chemical faculty. Relevance of the topic is connected with the problem of comprehension and modernization of the learning process in the field of teaching a foreign language in universities and the formation of students’ logical-semantic thinking. Necessity to solve new problems has caused emergence of a new paradigm of competence-based approach to higher professional education. The main aim of learning a foreign language in higher education is becoming the development of students’ foreign language communicative competence which will allow them to integrate as much as possible into the international professional community. This is an important condition for the social adaptation of students to modern life. The necessary condition is the formation of a vocationally-orientated base of abilities and skill. One of the approaches that make it possible to realize this condition in practice is the use of the method of semantic fields in the educational process to improve the approach to the digestion of foreign lexical elements and the intensification of the student’s acquisition of the necessary lexical base. This method can be successfully used to develop the skill of perception (reading, translation, paraphrase) of a foreign language text not as separate lexical units, but as the content of sense in general. The article also noted the high role of the student’s interest in learning foreign languages and increasing the productivity of the educational process. Using in the course of training professionally oriented texts close to the direction of future activities of future specialists allows to increase the level of students’ interest and, as a consequence, to develop the internal motivation to obtaining new knowledge.
